J.S Bach is one of the great composers in Western musical history. Bach was able to forge his own individual style of music through the use of a variety of techniques and stylistic characteristics. Bach’s concept of melody was quite different from what it had become by the beginning of the classical era. In Bach’s music the distinction between melody, harmony, and the bass line was blurred. In many of Bach’s works the Bass line was the central line. Bach was able to produce bass lines which had an intriguing melody, and had no problem making them co-exist with upper melodies.
