Duke Ellington was a renowned personality in the music industry as he had been very successful and notable composer and pianist. He also had been band leader of jazz orchestra and throughout his professional career of fifty years; he had been leader of the orchestra from the year 1923. He was born in 1899 and passed away in 1974. He had been a notable figure in the music industry and spent an active professional career in the field. That is why; his personality is worth to be studied so that lessons might be drawn from his life. He considered his music as part of category of American Music and he devoted his life to music to give new meanings to the field (PBS).

However, after some time the couple separated and he joined Mildred Dixon for managing Tempo Music. In 1938, he formally left the family and moved with Beatrice Evie Ellis and in the early 1960s, he made a relationship with Fernanda de Castro and then he had been supporting both women rest of his life. His Tempo Music was later run by his sister Ruth and his son Mercer Ellington led his own band and became manager of his father’s business. In the 1960, he received Hollywood Walk of Fame upon his work in the recording industry, in the year 1966 he received Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, in the year 1969 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom which is the highest ranked civilian award in the US, in 1971 he received honorary Doctorate degree from Berklee College of Music, in the year 1973 he received highest civilian honor of France i.e. Legion of Honor, and in 1999 after his death in 1974 he was given special Pulitzer Prize I recognition of his lifetime work and contribution to music and culture.
