10.1 Reader response is what it means to that person. This view allows the person to ignore, overlook what the other intent was at the time of writing. Therefore, the ability to twist a text to one’s own bias is all but guaranteed to happen.

Authorial intent is a application that views the text, story through the lens of the author. This gets to the point of what the author wants to communicate with the reader and not vis-versa. Therefore, this is more of a honest approach in interrupting the data and not putting our own bias on what the intent was of that author.

I have attended Bible studies and we tore a part the text and looked for the hidden meaning of the text. The problem was is we missed the context and the history of the text. This allowed us to draw our own symbols onto the message and pervert the message. Where we thought we were finding a unifying meaning we were just getting away from the literal text and what was really being said. The Bible does have allegories, but in general these are obvious or identified as such.

Typology is one that I was not as aware of but have some exposure now I see it defined. This is a “foreshadowing”, a lay-out of what is to come. This foreshadowing of Christ being the sacrificial lamb that was spelled out well throughout the New Testament. Typology is used the ultimate fulfillment of the God’s promise and the bridge that brings the New and Old Testament together in one cohesive unit.

Bible Code, I remember this book as a kid. This book was in my home and I was “amazed” by what I was reading. The problem was that this was found to be largely nothing and had no special sequence at all. These codes can be misleading and divert from what the author intended. This is the belif that the Bible hid seceret messages and was left to be discovered by computers. The ELS theory and Gematria is not a vaild way to decipher God’s plan, or future events.
