He was abducted, abused and his identity and dignity was taken away from him.Northup was a free black man from upstate New York. In march 1834 the Northup’s family moved to Saratoga Springs of New York. He worked as a violinist and lived with his wife and two kids. It was in 1841 Saratoga Springs New York, when Solomon was walking in the morning looking for a job and two gentlemen approached him named Brown & Hamilton. They offered Solomon a two week job of being a musician if he travels with them to Washington D.C. Mr.Ford bought Solomon but after a few week a man named Tibeats who works for Mr.Ford got in a fight with Solomon. Because Tibeats did not like Solomon he was abusing him. For example, he told Solomon to build a wood house and Solomon did but Tibeats just wanted to make Solomon suffer so he destroyed what Solomon built. Because of the fight Tibeats and his friends hanged Solomon on a tree but Solomon did not died . Also because of the fight Mr.Ford had to transfer Solomon to Mr.Epps who is a slave owner and he also owns a cotton field. Mr.Epps abused Solomon for not picking enough cotton. While working for Mr.Epps Solomon makes a deal with Armsby to deliver a note to his family and friends in Saratoga Springs. Mr.Epps finds out that Solomon was writing a note to his family , So he threaten Solomon if this is true but Solomon denied Mr.Epps. One day when Solomon and Mr.Epps were working a man came to help work with Mr.Epps name Bass. Solomon asked Bass where he came from Bass replied “Canada.” Furthermore, Solomon asks Bass if he could help him deliver a note to Saratoga Springs and also Solomon tells Bass that he is a free man not a slave.
