The preface starts the book and sets up the time period and briefly explains how Philbrick researched and what he intends to get out of the book. The first part of the book is dedicated to how various conflicts and actions led to the Battle of Bunker Hill. The first chapter starts with the night of the Boston Tea Party where colonists threw tea in the harbor to protest the taxes imposed by Britain. Instead of jumping right in and leading the reader directly to the battles and siege, Philbrick takes the reader back to the French and Indian war, where the colonies had amassed a rather large debt. In order to get the Colonies to pay back the war debt, various acts were passed that taxed the people in various ways.
There are similarities and multiple differences between the way the authors of I Am Malala and The Hobbit portray the hero’s journey, and most are differences. First of all, the biggest difference in the hero’s journey for the novels was the assistance. In I Am Malala, Malala’s father stays by her side during her journey in sharing her beliefs, but Gandalf leaves Bilbo early in the journey. Furthermore, the assistance in the hero’s journey is very important, because it contributes to many things that happen later on in the story. If Malala’s father had left in her journey, she probably wouldn’t have been shot, nor would she have gotten a Nobel Peace Prize, because she would have never met the reporters who helped her spread her beliefs; If Gandalf had stayed with Bilbo and the dwarves like Malala’s father had stayed with her, they never would have been caught by the wood elves and they would have never had to defeat the giant spiders,

Education is a very important thing to have both in modern time as well as back in the 19th century. Education is also one of the similarities a Camp 14 prisoner shares with a slave in the 19th century. Education was or is being used in both events as a way to oppress and brainwash the people, which makes this a similarity. Knowledge was also very different at Camp 14 than being a slave. Education was used in Camp 14 by teaching the inmates the rules they are suppose to follow as well as what the consequences would be as a result to breaking them.
