In the story “13 and a half “by rachel vail the main character is invited to go to ashley house. The Main character at that time doesn’t know ashley as much. There only connection was sitting next to each other in math class. Unlikely as it is the main character still said yes to her invitation. In the beginning of the story the main character perspective on ashley was pompous and selfish but later towards the end of the story she believed that ashley is also humble and thankful . As you can see the theme of “13 and a half” is that your perspective on people can change overtime. The author shows this by changing the tone, Comedy, and using a action to show or express a sign. To begin with , the author shows the theme by using comedy .You are able to see this when it say’s “I took a bite of my mallomar, maybe revealing that I was a hungry type of person”(pg2 Vail) . The author showed that the main character felt awkward and weirded out by ashley. The main character reacts to this by using comedy . The author shows this when she writes ‘“let’s have mallomars she said I think you can tell a lot about the person by the way they eat mallomars don’t you ?“‘(pg2 Vail) .This shows the tone of Ashley is very stuck up and snotty. Which the main character the main character really doesn't like to connect with. By the end of the story things change for example “‘Thanks she said as we headed back towards her house”’(pg6 Vail). As you can see Ashley finally seems grateful and appreciative of the main character being there. Therefor, the main character perspective changes throughout the story. At the beginning Ashley seemed spoiled and arrogant, towards the end the main character perspective is that she appreciative and nicer than expected.
