1775-1783, The American Revolutionary War:
During the American Revolutionary War, Britain and the colonies in America fought about the tax increase that Britain wanted to impose on them. Britain wanted the colonies to help pay for most of the damages caused by the French and Indian War (1754-1763). In order to do this, the British increased taxes for many items, such as sugar and stamps. This causes a huge uproar in the American Colonies, and as a result, thousands of Americans died in the war; either in the battle, British imprisonment, or from widespread diseases.

In addition, America wanted to increase how much territory they had and the people involved in this battle include, the British, Native Americans, and Canadians. The result of this battle started the decrease in the Federalist Party, helped Americans feel strong again in their quest to increase territory, and made relations between Britain much better for quite some time after.
1815-1860, The Era of National Expansion and Reform:
This was an era that fought for rights and liberty. African Americans that owned property were now sometimes allowed to vote and some could even own slaves or plantations of their own. Equal rights were becoming a huge topic and for the first time, slavery began to decrease, then in the 1820’s, slavery became worse in the south, pre-civil war. In 1833, the American Anti-Slavery Society was formed and abolitionists were starting to fight for equal rights. In 1854, women started to fight for their equal rights and the right to vote. This made the economy sky rocket and allowed tons of jobs to be available for lower class Americans and immigrants. Although the pay was low, the businesses and industries were growing, and farmers were not doing so well. As a result, the younger generation who did live on farms, moved into the more industrial areas in hopes a better work. Families also moved from farmland into the more industrial areas and put their children in school or began working them young and put them in factories to help provide for the families.
