The 1920’s was a period characterized by immersive and deep-rooted change coupled with a collective mindset shift amongst the people of the United States. Often referred to as the “Roaring Twenties” for the clear theme, it introduced a dynamic decade full of exuberance. There was a change of culture in the terms of the economic boom that surged consumerism, the technological advancements that would impact the public, and general social changes. With the new ability to produce goods in a more efficient manner, production of more complex items such as automobiles skyrocketed, and they became more accessible to the average American. This was the beginning of the culture of consumerism in the United States. However, production of goods and the expanding industries were not the main driver of the economic boom. The 1920s experienced a change such that advertisements and consumerism experienced a revolution. There came the realization of the power of branding and persuasive messages to the public, and brands utilized this newfound power to their benefit. This included in writing, and even on the radio, in order to reach the maximum number of people possible. The ability to appeal to the consumers desire has become pivotal in fueling a transformation in the way people shop and consume goods. At that point, there wasn’t just an increase in the rates of production, but in consumption as well.
