Ideally, I like to believe I fall into the category of people who would resist allowing machines; of allowing computers to dictate my choices and behavior (Fogg, 1999). This is frightening stuff my mind conjures up images of Pavlov and people receiving electric shocks followed by a quick reminder of the Holocaust. An evil dictator could enslave us all or eliminate anyone refusing to capitulate. George Orwell foretold this tale in his epic negative utopian thriller 1984(1950). Fifty-five years ago Orwell imagined some type of mass cable broadcasts used to control people’s behavior. No one imagined smart phones and how they would change the face of history and human behavior. This is the 3rd smartphone I have owned in the last three years (Fogg, 2007). Three years ago, my youngest daughter decided that she needed to push her mom into the 21st century. So she gave me my first smartphone. I cannot imagine being without my smartphone as I am tethered to it. It is my phone, my alarm clock and my entertainment. I also, must admit I am a Facebook junkie. My dad (now deceased) grew up in a much different age. It was a normal habit for him to read several newspapers daily. He would always tell us what was printed in the crimestopper pages. We would cringe. I do not read newspapers, my news comes from Facebook (Fogg, 2008). My children now cringe as I regale them with all the dangers I discover on Facebook. Recently, though this proved beneficial in our lives.
