2 Sates: The story of my marriage commonly known as 2 States was written by Chetan Bhagat and published in 2009. It is one of his bestselling novels. As the name suggest it talks about two different states and the whole plot is largely inspired on Bhagat’s own life. Basically in this novel he has tried to show the readers how the Indian society is bounded by its own culture, customs and traditions. The story is about two people who hail from different states of India and fall in love with each other. They want to get married but only by their parent’s approval and for that they face lots of problems to convince their parents. This bestselling novel was adopted into a movie and was released with the same name. Ideally, this novel’s film version complemented the novel in many levels. However, film can accomplish things that novels can’t and vice-versa. When turning a piece of novel into film there a several number of distinct and unavoidable differences no matter how the director, producer or contributors struggle to make it similar as possible. 2 States is partly an autobiographical novel for it shows past events of author and his marriage. The story is about two people Krish and Ananya. Both of them are from two different states Delhi and Tamilnadu. The story begins from IIM Ahmedabad’s mess hall where Krish a Punjabi boy from Delhi sees a beautiful girl Ananya who is a Tamilian, arguing with the mess staff about the food which was being served.
