2010 Dietary Guidelines

Before I start, I just want to say that when I read the 2010 Dietary Guidelines it reminded me that I am over 50. When you are younger we do not think about how our diets will need to change as we get older.
I did not know that by law, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans is reviewed, and updated every 5 years, if needed.
I use an app on my phone called fitness pal. Before apps it was paper and pencil, I was always told to write down what you eat. I would start out writing it down for a couple of days and then I would stop because I did not like what I was writing. It is widely known that what happens in the mind also happens in the body, and therefore a healthy and strong mind directly influences our physical health as well as our mental and emotional health, due to the mind-body connection. There are two main channels of focus, both of which train the mind in various ways and aid health and wellbeing on many levels. Clinical studies have proven that meditation and mindfulness not only improve our physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, but can elevate brain function in human beings through the increased ability to concentrate and focus, and consequently alter our biochemistry. Amongst numerous findings have been a profound increase in coping skills, empathy, self-acceptance, self-worth, self-esteem, confidence and joy, with notable reductions in anxiety and depression. The benefits of meditation in this capacity are endless, for example those suffering from performance anxiety of any kind would benefit greatly from an increase in confidence and emotional wellbeing (Singh, Sharma & Talwar, 2012).
