All artists come and go as the years go by in the music industry, but only the gifted artists can make records that can impact millions of people’s lives. There have been many one hit wonders in this music industry but every few years an underdog comes along and sweeps the billboard charts with a hit that has a powerful meaning to the song. Most artists now a day are not inspired to write about real tragedies that are happening in society and all around the world. That’s what makes one hit wonders who they are today, which are a lite flame that will soon be dimmed over time because they lack that spark. Kendrick’s parents got his birth name from honoring the singer Eddie Kendricks, who was the co-founder of the singing group The Temptations. In November 1995, Lamar witnessed his idols, Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre film the video for hit single “California Love”, which became a very significant moment for eight year old Lamar’s life. At the age of sixteen, Kendrick released his first full length mixtape titled Youngest Head Nigga in Charge (Hub City Threat: Minor of the Year) under the name K-Dot. Lamar’s first mixtape led him to a recording contract with Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) which was a newly founded record label based in Carson, California. While making other mixtapes, Lamar gain further recognition after a video of a live performance of a Charles Hamilton show surfaced, in which Hamilton battled fellow rappers who were in the audience.
