50 Shades of Shakespeare Fairies, a donkey, and a purple flower are crucial characteristics of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This focus on a cast of characters that spend a night in the woods falling in and out of love with each other, mostly because of Oberon’s interferences. Being King of the Fairies, Oberon is a powerful figure with magical tools that include his servant Puck Goodfellow. Puck treats love as a type of revengeful game. Everyone can get this conclusion by him messing with Titania, his desire to help Helena, and his friendship with Titania. Oberon instantly and purposefully uses magic as a way to mess with Titania’s emotions. His goal is to make Titania give him the child she stole. He has Puck retrieve a flower that causes the person who receives the juice on his or her eyelids to fall in love with the next living thing he or she sees. Oberon uses laws given by a higher power (Cupid) to make moves to win the child. However, Oberon is described as being a very cruel player. Because of a case of mistaken identity, this little gesture manages to reach Lysander, Demetrius, Hermia, and Helena and leads to the triple wedding at the end of the play. Along the way, Lysander falls in love with the wrong person, Demetrius has the flower juice applied to his eyelids. These situations follow back to Oberon having the time and power to mess with people. Oberon regains some respect by aiming to help Helena, there is still a problem apparent with the situation. The people are just pawns on a chessboard, clueless to what is happening around them. Love is seen as a power that can be given and taken away easily, which is the game Oberon is
