When comparing and contrasting the two television shows, Freaks and Geeks (1999), and the Gilmore Girls (2000), these are definitely two of the best shows about what it was like for an adolescent to be in high school in the past 3 or 4 decades. When I was a teenager in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, the shows that spoke to us about high school life were Eight is enough (1977) and James at 15 (1977). These shows dealt with issues of the time as well, but with Freaks and Geeks, the writers really were able to depict life in 1980 for young teenagers. Even though I was in my early 30’s when it came out, it still took me back to that time and brought back that teenage angst. It goes to show that no matter how old a person is, what era they grew up in, or are growing up in, the issues that adolescents deal with on a daily basis are still there, the playing field may just change a little bit.
Within every high school in the United States of America, stereotypes affect the everyday life of adolescents. The author John Hughes’ created a classic movie The Breakfast Club to demonstrate and understand the difficulties of puberty and how it affects adolescents today. The characters within the movie are stereotyped by their peers and their teachers and face the challenge of personal identity that affect their personal, parent and teacher relationships. Throughout this essay I will discuss the timing of puberty and maturation of a few different characters. Along with this I will discuss the cognitive advancement or the lack of cognitive advancement of three characters associated within the movie.
Mad Hot Ballroom, directed by Marilyn Agrelo, is a documentary filmed in New York City. Throughout the film, students and faculty of elementary schools teach a ten-week ballroom dancing course in preparation for a city wide competition. Unbenounced to the children, simply by being themselves, they would be teaching their audience a valuable lesson about adolescence, socialization, and institutions. Throughout the film there were a handful of behaviors that one would consider typical for the age group portrayed; since it was elementary students, likely fifth grade, the majority of the children were 10 and 11 years of age. Adolescence: A Look at Adolescence in the Movie The Breakfast Club The 1985 movie written and directed by John Hughes, called The Breakfast Club looks at five very different students who are coming into adolescence and becoming their own people.
The 1970’s was a time for radical change. Within the radical change was feminism, sex and sexuality, and drugs. Although this may not have been part of everyone’s lives, it was there, and it was prevalent. However, in 1970’s television none of this was talked about. Even though the 1970’s was a turning point in censorship in American television, the ideas and values were still moderately the same as the previous decades.

Journal - Day 1 So far the experience is going very well. I met my cooperating teacher and we talked about different stuff on what and what not to do. During some free time I was memorizing students’ names and where they were sitting out. My cooperating teacher has a clipboard with pictures of the students faces from last years school book and where they are sitting at on sheets of paper. We also exchanged phone numbers and reporting time is at 7:20 and dismissal is anywhere from 2 - 4:20.

It primarily centers on the story of Frank Stokes, played by George Clooney, and how he is able to assemble a ragtag group of “soldiers” and actually enter the frontlines. Over the course of the story, the group loses a few members, but do manage to discover the stashes of art hidden by Hitler and save it from destruction, including the Ghent Altarpiece and the Lady Madonna.
