The movie I have selected to watch for this essay is “A Beautiful Mind.” I have watched this movie before, but re-watched it for a better understanding. A movie about John Nash, the owner of a beautiful mind. Through this essay, I will talk about the positive symptoms, negative symptoms, recovery, and the type of Schizophrenia John Nash has.
Let’s start by talking about the type of Schizophrenia I believe John Nash to have. I believe that John Nash has a form of Paranoid Schizophrenia. This is both a blessing and a curse. This situation is a blessing because it provided a best friend for John Nash that got him through hard moments in his life. The situation is also a curse because he begins to waste time on false activities, John Nash becomes paranoid and hurts people. Between the good and bad, the bad side is worse by far.
Now I will be talking in detail about the positive scenes the movie displayed that were caused by symptoms. Charles, the best friend of John Nash is one of the only good things that came from his Schizophrenia. John Nash even stated “I miss talking to him” when he started to ignore the hallucinations. Parcher, another hallucination was both a positive and negative for John Nash. Parcher was a positive because he made John Nash feel needed and gave him an important task to work on.
Now to go into details about the negative scenes that the symptoms caused. The worse scene from the movie was when John Nash almost killed his own son. John Nash put his baby son into a bath and walked away because he hallucinated that Charles was watching the baby. One of the only positives, Charles, almost killed his child. Another scene was when Dr. Rosen explained to Alicia Nash that a chunk of John’s past cherished events never happened in reality.
