Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune was a educator and activist. Mary McLeod was Born on July 10, 1875, in Mayesville, South Carolina. She was the last of seventeen children, and fortunately was born in freedom. When a school for black children opened the McLeod family had to make a decision. They only had enough money to send one child and McLeod was chosen.
The author’s tone in this quote is violent and bitter. Eric saying that he “hated almost everyone “, would support the reader’s thinking towards what kind of person Eric is, and what Eric is thinking. Eric’s use of language almost immediately gives the reader a hint of what he is capable of, not in the sense that he would literally “rip is head off and eat it” but in the sense that he is capable of doing bad things. Given the fact that people throughout the United States have already heard of the mass shooting in Columbine, the reader would promptly identify Eric as the killer and they would be right. The author’s purpose could be to keep the reader thinking: who is the killer? , but also help the reader predict how will the killer’s next plans
Whale talk, a book about a teen named tj, who struggled with family values and friends. With a little courage, and an oddball group of kids on a swim team, they learn that if you keep on going, you can and will succeed. Chris crutcher, the author of this book, is a special writer. The reason i say that is due to the fact that, he writes his books using examples of modern day themes and situations. Crutcher wrote whale talk around a few themes/messages that he wanted to pursue, and one of the messages was that if you have perseverance, you will keep on going no matter what situation you are in, and that is exactly what crutcher showed in his book, whale talk.
Everyone has feelings, whether or not they choose to express them, is their own choice. People all around the world have done something to be ashamed about; others just hide the pain deep down inside for a while until it slowly catches up with them. In the story “Killings” by Andre Dubus, the main character Matt Fowler has gone through a tragic event in his life: his son was murdered. Matt chose to let the guilt build up inside of him until he snapped. When it all finally built up, he murdered the man that killed his son.
In “How to Handle a Bully,” by Kathiann Kowalski, an experienced journalist, Kowalski reports the different strategies to stop bullying. She informs that bullying is at its peak in the late teenage years, but can start in an early age. Kowalski concurs that girls intimidates as much as boys; however, they do it differently. She explores many reasons why bullying occurs at the first place, and who starts bullying. Kowalski exemplifies the situations that victims could be in, and the solution on how to handle the bully.
He’s not depressed he’s bored. The 39 deaths of Adam Strand is a book by Gregory Galloway is a young adult book that mainly focuses on this boy who has killed himself so many times now that he’s become a famous person in his small town. The tone of the book doesn’t seem like how the cover of the book would sound like most of the time. It can be a serious/comedic moment in the book at any time even though this person dies many times over and over. I’d recommend the book to people that like hearing about death
In the short story “A Brief Moment in the Life of Angus Bethune” by Chris Crutcher. My theme for this short story is when one pushes through the bad stuff, the end is much more rewarding. At the beginning of the story Angus was a really negative person thinking that nothing could ever work out for him. For example when Angus was talking too the readers at the beginning of the story saying, “you don't survive a genetic history like that unscathed. ”(Pg.1)
Whale Talk Bullying, harassment, and racism is a very common scenario among our new generation, that happens far too much. In fact over eighty percent of people have experienced some type of bullying whether it was physical, verbal, or even cyber bullying. Chris Crutcher saw the realism of our society and the outlook on bullying and wrote the book Whale Talk to emphasize the impact of bullying, racism and violence, and how serious the matter can be. Furthermore how it can affect a person and their everyday lives.

Your destiny can be such a fragile thing, you slide between the path of success and the path of failure daily with the decisions you make. Often when you make a bad decision you are give a second chance. And these decisions and chances all lead up to your destiny.
Stephen A. Douglas was born in Brandon Vermont in 1813. Douglas grew up and studied law in New York before moving to Illinois in 1833. In Illinois, Douglas helped to organize a Democratic party. He played a large part in the setup and and organization of said party, introducing many useful features such as committees and regularity of meetings. Stephen Douglas held many positions during his time, including several state offices, a seat on the House of Representatives, and the position of United States Senator.
I live a life of considerable privilege. I am a white, upper middle class, straight, young adult, living a comfortable life. I have learned to recognize these facts, and thought I understood the meaning of my privilege; until I read this novel. The Other Wes Moore gave me a new perspective on the meaning of ‘privilege,’ and how it affects the workings of our society. This novel really opened my eyes to some of the troubles in this world, and how everyone has a story that isn’t seen on the surface.

Statistically, the dominant type of violence is emotional and occurs mostly in the classroom and courtyard of schools. Bullying is a kind of torture, methodical and systematic, in which the aggressor sums up the victim, often with silence, indifference or complicity of other comrades.
