Foreign aid is neither a failure nor a solution for all difficulties in other countries. Instead it’s the American policy’s important tool that can be of use to the interests of the United States, as well as the world. Foreign aid is used to address humanitarian concerns, like relieving debt for the world’s poorest nations, especially ones that have been badly affected by war or natural disasters. Having our country built on Christian ethics and morals we share this common Christian ideal of a person. This ideal, grounded on human dignity, understands our social responsibility to help those who are poor and in need. On the left side of our ideological spectrum, we have our Liberal side who believes government action is necessary to attain equal opportunity and equality for all. Liberal policies normally emphasize the need for the governments to solve problems; protect civil liberties, individual rights, and human rights; as well as guarantee that no one is in need. These liberals believe that higher taxes on the wealthy and larger government are two things necessary when dealing with the injustice and inequity in society. These taxes allow the government to create jobs and provide welfare for poor under developed countries. Liberals believe we humans should be stepping in and helping aid foreign countries because of their belief in Rationalism, which is the faith in human reason to solve complex social economic problems. Their belief in Egalitarianism, which is the believing in the principle that all people are equal and deserve equal rights / opportunities, is another reason why Liberal believes we should be getting involved in aiding these countries in need. Another core value they hold is Internationalism, and this explains their position on foreign aid because they believe that the world’s people and their governments should unite across all boundaries to advance their long-term common interests, which is more important than their short-term disputes.
