Low corporate tax rates are not the only attractive quality that brought the growing technology industry across the Atlantic Ocean. Twitter flew over to Ireland to prevent the National Security Agency from requesting inquiries of their user data information. Ireland is known for having relaxed privacy laws compared to the United States. Twitter is not the only business that used this tactic to avoid the National Security Agency, Facebook is another company that has adopted the same method. Both companies are also lining up for the future in Ireland with advertising laws. A low corporate tax rate and a skilled labor force do not compare to the benefits Twitter and Facebook can be receiving. With relaxed privacy laws, both companies can make huge profits from user data advertising which could not be done in the United States. With benefits like this, technology industries are will be seeing more profits in addition to the tax breaks they are already receiving (betanews, 2015). Not only are Twitter users outraged by the loophole Twitter exploited, the Data Protection Agency is stepping in and reprimanding the situation. Action is being taken to protect consumer’s privacy while on these social media sites. Google made efforts to tackle their privacy policy changes with their customers head on and still received negative feedback. Consumers wanted Google to remain the bigger company and not fold its reputation and follow the trends of other companies.
