Ed Sheeran and Emily Dickinson may have their differences, but many similarities are shown as well. It all starts at the beginning. Ed Sheeran was born on February 17, 1991. His birthplace is Halifax, England. Emily Dickinson was born on December 10, 1830. She was born in Amherst, Massachusetts. Both of them started off their careers young. Sheeran moved to London as a teen to pursue his music, while Dickinson left school to write her poetry. Dickinson stayed in her room and wrote up to eighteen hundred poems in her lifetime. She died kidney disease at the age of fifty-six on May 15, 1886. Dickinson's poems are about death, wonder, and immorality. Both Sheeran and Dickinson share the themes of love and self-identity. another similarity in their work is the rhyme scheme. This is only for a few of Sheeran's songs and Dickinson's poems. Sheeran and Dickinson both use slant rhyme. A slant rhyme is a rhyme in which the stressed syllables of ending consonants match, however, the preceding vowel sounds do not match. In his song "Save Myself", Sheeran uses a slant rhyme. He shows this in his lyrics by using words like "breathe" and "me". "To Fight Aloud is Very Brave" by Dickinson is full of slant rhyme. She uses words like "country" and "see" for the slant rhyme in her poem. Even though they both use slant rhymes, Dickinson also used exact rhyme. Rhyme may be part of Sheeran and Dickinson's work, but something really important is religion. Sheeran and Dickinson were very religious people. Both of them are or were Christian. Dickinson lived in a Calvinist household and attended many religious meetings. Sheeran never really revealed his religion, but his songs show that he is Christian.
