Although they take place in two disparate eras, “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare and “Many Men” by 50 Cent have some semblance. In the play of Macbeth, the character Macbeth does everything in his power, without any moral intervention, to becoming king, a position in which he believes he is prophetically destined for. The rapper 50 Cent creates a rap called “Many Men” in which he shares a mind with Macbeth. While they seem different externally, the two works share the concepts of ego and prophecy, violence, and betrayal. In terms of ego and prophecy, the character of Macbeth and 50 Cent are very similar. Ego and prophecy can be understood as two different categories, but it is because of their egos that they believe so strongly their prophecies. Macbeth, who was previously the thane of Glamis, had hubris, which was caused by the people around him. For example, in the beginning of “Macbeth”, the sergeant relays to King Duncan, “For brave Macbeth--well he deserves that name--Disdaining fortune, with his brandish 'd steel, which smoked with bloody execution, like valour 's minion…” to express Macbeth’s performance in the battle against Macdonwald. The sergeant talked about Macbeth in a very bloviated manner. Also, Lady Macbeth referred to Macbeth as someone with “the milk of human kindness”. Although these two descriptions were not directly said to Macbeth, they were said about Macbeth and it is highly likely that the things said about him got
