littering is bad for the environment. In the short story “A Couple of Really Neat Guys” By Dave Berry, one short conversation brought him and his optometrist to madness . In this story, Barry and his optometrist Dr. Jeffrey Jeruss are tired of people who litter, so they came up with a plan to atleast get some to listen to there message. Previously in the story, Barry had come up with a persona for himself, Captain Tidy. He’d always been afraid to do the work of stoping littering himself, but now he has a sidekick. Dr. Jeffrey Jeruss. So they go out in the streets of miami, florida in neon pick tights jumping out of their vans whenever they saw someone litter. In the low comedy short story “A Couple of Really Neat Guys”, the author uses comic character and one-liners to show recycling and picking up your trash can change the minds of other make a huge impact on the environment. …show more content…

For example when Barry introduces Captain Tidy. He starts with saying “When a person litters, Captain Tidy comes swooping out of nowhere and explains to the litterer, in polite terms, that he or she is being a jerk”(Barry). This shows the the role that Captain Tidy plays in the the story and it give context as to who the character is. This quote also adds to the comedic value of the the story because of the way the author describes the character, giving Captain Tidy more depth. Furthermore, the author introduces a supporting character to the story named Dr. Jeffrey Jeruss and describes his role in the story.
