I like this quote for this unit’s essential question because it shows that forgiveness is healing. Justice is usually sought out of anger. Therefore, I believe that justice and forgiveness do not go hand in hand. Forgiveness is mental. Forgiving is not only good for the person you forgive, but also for the person that does the forgiving. People can seek justice from many different motives. Although when people try to get justice they are stopping themselves from healing and moving on. Justice keeps you stuck in the past, while you could be doing other things that make you happy. This is proven in the story, “A Dish Best Served Cold.” In the story a daughter of a man that got shot in the head, seeks justice on the man that shot her dad. She spent so much of her life researching, and trying to find the man that did it instead of living her own life after her father got over it. Overruling anger towards this man got the best of her, but we also find out that when her mother and father got a divorce the mother and daughter resented the dad. So she could be trying to get her father’s forgiveness by getting revenge on the man that shot him, instead of just asking for forgiveness. In conclusion, I think justice and forgiveness are two different concepts, and that they do not go hand in hand. This being proved through many examples in short stories, and movies. We now know that justice is a viscous cycle that should be avoided. While forgiveness is the better way to live a happy and healthy lifestyle. So the next time something happens to us we can remember that is better for us to forgive then seek
