For the past week, we have been working and analyzing poetry. Most of the time I never get poetry, but this time each of the texts were analyzed and broken down. When working on TP-DASTT we worked on finding different devices in the story and breakin each text to learn and understand what each is about. The poems introduced to me were “A Dream Deferred,” by Langston Hughes, “Maggie and Milly and Molly and May,” by E.E Cummings and “Hope” by Emily Dickinson. The three poems I have been introduced to were the most complex poems I have ever read and each of them allow me to have a personal reflection on them. The first poem, “A Dream Deferred,” by Langston Hughes made me realize that not all dreams are accomplished and not all last forever. One of my favorite lines was when he said, “Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?” This is my favorite line because when he compared a dream to a raisin, I believe it meant does your dream eventually fade away. Hughes work appeals to me because his choice of diction was simplistic and rhyming. The way Hughes poems are set up reminds me of E.E Cummings work because of rhyming in their text. …show more content…

You might discover something new. My favorite line from the poem is when Cummings said, “- as small as a world and as large as alone.” When I read that line, I noticed that being alone is a big issue and that could be the reason Cummings said large is alone. Cummings work appeals to me because his theme was towards nature and the fact that many people don’t know what is out there.
