So Gerry tell Ray “If we get to Rev once, just one time, I swear to God, I’m gonna hit you so hard, by the time you come to, ooh, boy, you’re gonna need a new haircut.” This was a pivotal scene in the movie. There is no time for Gerry to be second guessing himself; once he had put his decision in place. He knew to grantee its success; he had to get everyone, he has interactions with onboard. This is not to say that things were going to change. But this is to say he has a plan as a leader. Gerry has completely let his guard down, and opened his heart up to the other ethnic backgrounds.
