Does a “Good” Man Exist?
The morbid tale of a family’s encounter with a The Misfit makes them question the meaning of good. Aristotle’s teaching on good states that good cannot be defined, which contradicts what the grandmother believes. She thinks that her way is the best. “A Good Man is Hard to Find” exhibits Aristotelian philosophy to inform that one shouldn’t be quick to judge something that they are not perfect in.
The grandmother lies to her grandchildren: “ ‘There was a secret panel in this house,’ she said craftily, not telling the truth but wishing that she were” (O’Connor 235).
