Carol and Stone were married when Carol got pregnant with Jason at the age of 17 years old, but they divorced when Jason was only 4 years old. As a result, Jason has had only intermittent contact with his father. Later, Carol remarried and eventually her new husband adopted Jason to make Carol happy. After trying, the paternal connection was not there. At the age of 8 years old, Jason was referred to child protective services due to abuse and neglect that had gone on in his life while his mother and father were married.
Bad Boy is a memoir written by African American author, Walter Dean Meyers. A memoir is a story in which the author is writing about his or herself and the events that has occurred in their life. Bad Boy takes place during the 40’s through the 60’s. In the book, Bad Boy, the author displays the dramatic changes throughout his school, social and family life. Walter Dean Meyers shares many happenings about being African American is school life, social life, and society.
The book “Bad Boy” by Walter Dean Myers tells the story of a young African American aggressive boy, Walter who gets in multiple fights but uses the art of poetry, reading, and writing as an outlet. Walter Dean Myers is not just a boy who likes to fight he is an excellent poet and writer but struggles with speech problems which leads to his teachers, family, and friends to think he is not bright. Walter was moved up classes due to his impeccable writing, the only thing holding him back after reaching the higher class was his speech. Walter knew that his speech problems would be in the center of his life and effect what he does in life.

In both "A Good Man is Hard to Find" by Flannery O 'Connor and In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, the author asserts the idea that villainy spawns from the villain’s less than ideal circumstances of his past. In the novel In Cold Blood, Capote presents Perry as a villain shaped by the unfortunate experiences of his childhood. The first instance of these experiences can be seen in Tex’s letter to the Kansas State Parole Board. Tex describes Perry’s early childhood as rather light-hearted, up until the point when his mother “wanted to go to the City and live a wild life” (Capote 126).
When short stories are written they can be realistic, nonrealistic, scary, fantasy, etc. Some of the more realistic stories have the plot grow from the characters, meaning that the story unfolds and makes sense because of a character's personality. However there are stories that are set in a realistic time or place, but the story itself is less likely to happen in real life based on the behavior and personality of the characters, and appears to happen only by chance or coincidence. The short stories, "The Man Who Knew Belle Starr", by Richard Bausch and "A Good Man is Hard to Find", by Flannery O'Connor, follow fatal moments in their character's lives.
In the 1953 short story titled “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Connor, readers are given a glimpse of what the end of the story may look like through use of foreshadowing, symbolism, and other literary techniques. Although the story looks to be an innocent story of a family who travels to Florida for vacation at the start of it, readers soon find out that the story has a darker twist to it. This family trip turns violent and this gruesome ending can easily represent the violence taking place in America during the time this story was written by O’Connor and even today. The Purpose of Psychopaths in “A Good Man Is Hard to Find” In the short story “A Good Man Is Hard to Find,” a family of six meets their demise on the side of the road in Georgia after a gang of convicts lead by The Misfit brutally murders each member of the family. The story starts off in an upbeat tone and sets up a seemingly happy plot about a family going on vacation to Florida. However, the grandmother does not listen to her son about taking her cat on the trip and her disobedience ultimately leads to all of their deaths. The author changes the tone of the story at the end when the family gets into a wreck and faces a gruesome death by a crazed armed killer on the loose (O’Connor#).
Plot: Bailey promised that no matter what they would always be together. With their exploer mother who left the girls with her mother and brother, for over sixteen years, Bailey promised that she would never leave Lennie like their mother did. At age nineteen Bailey suffered from fatal arrhythmia attack, leaving Lennie alone in the world. Only seventeen Lennie was alone in the world. Suffering next to her was Bailey’s soule mate Toby Shaw.
A father is meant to care for his children, be by their side, and provide them with nurture. These qualities of a father are not what we see in Bailey. Bailey had invited Maya to come to southern California to stay with him, but after she arrives, he continually pits her against Dolores, his young girlfriend. We see this action from Dad Bailey and it starts when he says to Maya, “Well that’s life” when Maya discusses her opinions towards Dad Bailey’s girlfriend. This goes back to what I was saying about Dad Bailey’s failure as a father as instead of clearing the situation between Maya and Dolores, he tells Maya to forget about it and says that rude acts and violence are a part of life and you need to live with it.
The Invisible Man narrates young black man´s process of self-discovering and self-growing and his struggle to gain recognition and to define his identity in a white American patriarchal society. Although the most relevant aspect in the novel is the fight the protagonist faces in order to obtain equality between races and gain visibility in the society, female characters seem to be completely forgotten, denied and lacking visibility and autonomy. Women´s othering and the oppression of a Western patriarchal system makes them as invisible throughout the novel as the protagonist-or even more-. In addition, female representatives in the novel are reduced to established roles and stereotypes which deny them any kind of individual personality. This
No one would have thought that the idyllic Southern life style could be turned into a Southern nightmare. In O 'Connors "A Good Man is Hard to Find" that is precisely what happens. " A Good Man is Hard to Find" is set in Southern America. This story has many tenets comparable to that of Southern Gothic fiction. Southern Gothic writing emphasizes on abnormal character and unusual events to create an unsettling portray of life in Southern America.
Although novels and books are great, I love short stories as well. At the moment my favorite one is “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
