The book “Bad Boy” by Walter Dean Myers tells the story of a young African American aggressive boy, Walter who gets in multiple fights but uses the art of poetry, reading, and writing as an outlet. Walter Dean Myers is not just a boy who likes to fight he is an excellent poet and writer but struggles with speech problems which leads to his teachers, family, and friends to think he is not bright. Walter was moved up classes due to his impeccable writing, the only thing holding him back after reaching the higher class was his speech. Walter knew that his speech problems would be in the center of his life and effect what he does in life. This book educates me in knowing what it was like during the late 40’s.
