I would let the bride know that I would be arriving earlier (about 10 minutes) to take a look at the rooms being used, to take the photographs. As I would be moving around, keeping out of the peoples’ way – acting like a fly on the wall. In between taking photographs of the bride, and bridesmaids getting ready, I would shoot – the wedding dress, shoes, jewellery, garter flowers, etc.

Pictures of the bride’s parents would also be taken as I walked around the house, making sure I had my back to windows. Depending on the light coming through the window, maybe the light could be used to create a silhouette effect.

I would position myself so as to get the first kiss, then turn my lens on the guests and capture friends and family. As the bride enters be in a position to capture the groom’s reaction! Get close-ups of them taking their vows, and putting rings on fingers. Get a few shots of the signing of the register and in between shots of the guests. Finally, shots as they walk down the aisle together.

Take a photo of the bride's ring sitting on the preacher's Bible, could also be a special picture.

Formal portraits. The couple, bride alone, groom alone, family shots, group shots. The idea is to get lots of beautiful photos of the couple that is worthy of hanging up.

The external flash must not be pointed directly at the couple. Always point it at the ceiling or wall.

Always check the background, especially during the formal portrait session. Make sure there is no clutter or people behind them. The bride and groom should be shot in a variety of different compositions and doing a variety of different things. It is a good idea to have some idea of the type of shots required, but to always be ready for some of the unplanned
