Themes in a story help to describe what the book is about. It does this in the book Night by helping describe what World War 2 was like for the Jews. It also helps to see what the people in the camps went through. My two themes from night are imprisonment and survival. The first one I will talk about is imprisonment, then i’ll talk about survival.
In both “The Boat” and Brooklyn, the families are torn between several incidents or situations that occur during them. Conflict an occur frequently between families or friends when difficult situations rise to the surface. The stress that occurs during these stories shows the tension between staying home or leaving in the book Brooklyn, as well as in “The Boat.” In this essay I will discuss some parts of the stories that showed tension that has occured in the short story and the book as well. Especially, I will discuss the difficulty the boy had to endure, and how his choices impacted his future relationship with his parents.

The theme is developed through characters’ thoughts and feelings. In the text “ Bad Boy“,Water likes reading , dancing , and singing . He was expected to like sports like the other boys so he can have respect. It connects to the theme of childhood challenges because he's trying to be someone he's not so he can fit in . In the text “ I was a Skinny Tomboy Kid “ the main character acted free in her surroundings.
Relying on Others People have utilized other people to help them to get what they desire the most. Whether that is the means of survival, or for luxury, people have relied on each other for as long as two people have set foot on earth. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel and Maus by Art Spiegelman both books demonstrate characters using one another’s resources and connections to survive. Both books show it is easier to overcome trials when one relies on one another, rather than oneself. Safety, it is a necessity for everyone and everyone desires it.

Realities of war The Vietnam war was a roll over from WWII, to help stop the spread of communism. On December 1, 1969, the first Vietnam wartime draft was announced1. Between the dates of August 1964 and February 1973 1,857,304 men were inducted to the united states military2. Most men drafted to the Vietnam war were between the ages of 18 and 24.
The theme is developed by how Jeannette learns how to take care of herself and her younger siblings, and the way her parent taught her. Jeannette have a very tough childhood where she have to go up quickly,so that she can work to make money. This way she won’t starve and feel the chill of winter, where there’s no heat in the house. She can also break ties with the move and rent new house to find new money sources because her dad can’t hold a job for a long
The novel has two themes displayed through the novel. One theme is to never give up. Another theme is when an individual is scared to do something they can overcome

This underlying theme significantly contributes to the overall storyline providing a unique characterization to each character, allowing the reader to really experience the character’s emotional development through the novel. The theme of love can be identified from the very beginning of the novel.
The parents’ actions after the change from them caring for their children to the nursery caring for them shows that they are scared of the change. The parents are scared that there are going to be further changes to their family and want to change it back to before the nursery. However, some disagree with this theme and say that the main theme of the story is abandonment. They say this because there are many points in the story which showcase abandonment. The children’s actions also support the theme of people are scared of change.
Also , the setting of the story impacts the theme. One of the themes is the transition from childhood to adulthood .
In 1996, Barry Loukaitis, 14 years old, walked into his junior high school in Moses Lake Washington and killed two students and a teacher. He reportedly told friends, at least eight of them according to the article (Dedham 2000) of his thoughts of killing others. He also reportedly had spoke of this for a year prior to the shooting incident. He spoke of specific details such as using a coat to hide a rifle as he did in his shooting. He actually told one friend as relayed by the friend, “ He said that it’d be cool to kill people” and as this friend went on to say Loukaitis had said “He could probably get away with it.”
Lastly, the two words the son and the man add to the complexity of the relationship. This shows that the man can’t picture himself being a father, especially after knowing he can’t meet the child’s expectation, but will always picture his son being a child in his eyes. In conclusion the author uses literary devices to add depth and emotion to the complex relationship between the two characters. He does this by changing the point of view throughout the poem from son to father. He uses a purposeful structure from present to future coming back to present to demonstrate with the complexity of the father's
