Relying on Others People have utilized other people to help them to get what they desire the most. Whether that is the means of survival, or for luxury, people have relied on each other for as long as two people have set foot on earth. In the book Night by Elie Wiesel and Maus by Art Spiegelman both books demonstrate characters using one another’s resources and connections to survive. Both books show it is easier to overcome trials when one relies on one another, rather than oneself. Safety, it is a necessity for everyone and everyone desires it. Mid-way through the book a Polish Kapo assists Arts father with vastily important advice, “Listen there are too many prisoners...be sure to stand on the far left”(Spiegelman 191). Without this advice Vladek may have not made it out of the world war. The large number of Jews and others that got imprisoned in the camps caused many “selections” or another way of saying if you survive or die. The Germans would line up everyone in the camp and put every prisoner in a separate line (usually a right or left) depending if he or she was surpassed the requirements. Luckily Vladek knew before what line to go in because of his relationship with the Polish kapo. Vladek could have easily made the mistake of going to the wrong line without that valuable advice from the Kapo. This is similar to the modern world there is always a “good” and “bad” part of town. Most know which is which by learning that information by another person that they will trust. Without information like that a person could walk right into the “bad” part of town and not even know what kind of danger they are presenting to themselves.
