The Holocaust was a very traumatic event for everyone who experienced it and those who came after, and it gave many people experience, trauma, and disorders that they should never have had. Those of us who did not personally experience the pain will never know what those Jews went through in those camps, but Maus and Night share the experiences and horrors that millions of Jews had to live through. Maus is a survivor tale that tells the author, Artie Speigelmen’s father’s experiences in the Holocaust and his retelling through a graphic novel. Night is an autobiography written by Elie Wiesel that recounts the experiences of a teenager in a concentration camp during the Holocaust. The Holocaust made Vladek make sure he made his decisions wisely and it contributed to his obsession over things being in the right place. On page 33, the German soldiers were very strict and controlling, even when trying to be nice. On these panels, we see the German Soldier get Vladek new clothes that fit, but he had to account for all of the shoes, so when Vladek wanted to take a pair for his friend he had to make sure to bring it back because if he didn’t he had no idea what would happen to him. Also, as we see in chapter two, if you weren’t doing something exactly how you were told or exactly how the Nazis wanted it to be, you would most likely be executed or heavily humiliated and other consequences would follow. It states on page 47,” ‘Hah! You never did an honest day’s work in your whole life, Spiegelman! I know all about you.You owned big factories and exploited your workers, you dirty capitalist!’” When this quote is said, you can see in the panels that Vladek was just trying his best to do his job and was completely open to learning how the Nazis wanted it
