“Through the Tunnel” exemplifies similar themes of fear of failure, the fear of being judged, and the want for acceptance. The author shows these by using situations such as Jerry swimming with the other boys, and when he worked his way up to be able to hold his breath long enough to go through the cave in order to fit in. “He felt he would sink now and drown; he could not swim the few feet back to the rock. Then he was clutching it and pulling himself up onto it.” (Lessing 9)

For the most part though, the fear rooted through how small and cramped it was. An example of this is when the story states “ so small that it felt uncomfortably crowded, even
Running the Maze Imagine being trapped inside of a place with no memory of how you got there and the only way to get out was through a maze. James Dashner’s young adult, science fiction novel, The Maze Runner is about just that. There were a brunch of themes in the novel but the most important ones were maintaining rules and orders, making sacrifices, never giving up, and manipulation, even though something may look simple it might be harder than it seems. All these themes were practiced by Thomas and other Gladers in the Glade. Dashner also wrote the sequels to the Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials and Death Cure.

This story (Seven Floors by Dino Buzzati) has many aspects with hidden meaning showing the use of allegory to make death almost seem normalized. The 3 literary elements I saw used were setting, conflict, and character development. The hospital brings a setting that shows the progression of old age with the 7 floors that each hold a worse level of illness as you go down with the first level being people with no hope at all. “Gravely ill patients were housed on the second floor; and on the first floor, those for whom all hope had been abandoned.
In the short story “Seven Floors” by Dino Buzzati, the author skillfully creates suspense throughout the span of the story. The story follows the protagonist Giovanni Corte as he arrives at a mysterious hospital where he will be treated for a mild form of a disease. He is put on the seventh floor of the hospital and learns that the doctors choose which floor to put patients on by the severity of their disease. The patients on the first floor are lost causes and the patients on the seventh floor are the most mild cases. The short story follows Giovanni Corte as the doctors send him down floor by floor until he finds himself on the first floor.
The author represents the city like he is scared of the city because his tone in the poem was very eerie. An example I have seen machines eating houses And stairways walk all by themselves And elevator doors opening and closing And people disappear. Only this one example sounds like the author is trying to represent the poem like it is a nightmare. Another example how bridges quake with fear I know. This example is the starting where
