A Little Tooth: Poem Analysis

After reading "A Little Tooth" with the break down of lines that was used I believe this poem is a huge run on sentence. Even though Lux uses punctuation in the poem it still reads to me as a run sentence. Lux has a interesting way of how he breaks down the lines throughout the poem. One would wonder, What made Lux use punctuation in this poem? In the poem Lux wrote, " You did, you loved, and your feet are sore. Its's dusk. Your daughter's tall (Kirszner & Mandell 2012). " A lot of poems do not use punctuation which is something that makes "A Little Tooth" different than most poems. Lux does not give the reader a moment to pause to think about what was said. In order for me to fully understand what Lux was trying to explain in this poem I had …show more content…

Orr thinks that this poem is much deeper than simply choosing a road to take. In reality we only have one life to live. The choices we make in this life will highly affect us for as long as we shall live. I believe that is the depth of what David Orr is trying to get the readers to understand about "The Road Not Taken". Robert Frost was not just making a decision on which road he wanted to go down. He was looking at which path would be the better option. Frost stated, " and looked down as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth" he was speaking on the paths to choose (Kirzner & Mandell 2012). The metaphor is an apt, if somewhat tired, portrayal of the importance of choices and individuality, choose what is right over what is easy (Vujin 2011). As he stood before the two paths he talked about taking the other path at a later time in life. David Orr would make you look into this differently because in life you may not get the opportunity to travel down another path depending on the decisions made when traveling down the first path. In life we do not know what will happen based on the choices we make. We only hope that the choices we are making are the right choices to help us in our journey through life. We only get one life to live. Frost speaks on getting a second chance to take a different path. In life we do not always make the right decisions and have to travel down a different direction to get our lives …show more content…

Suarez does a good job with the imagery used in this poem. Isla is a very visual poem and it has a lot of images that draws the readers attention. In the poem Suarez wrote about a child sitting in front of the tv watching it in black and white. This image drew my attention because I can almost relate to it. I have heard stories from my grand parents about how their tv was in black and white. As a child I can remember sitting up close to the tv watching my favorite shows. Many times my mom would tell me get away from the tv because I was sitting so close to it. Shows that were interested caused me to sit right from and center in front of the tv so I could definitely relate to this character. The next image that stood out to me was that the child was twelve years old feeling unwanted like nobody them and that they didn't know anyone in the new country. These images brought empathy out of me as it seemed so sad. Imagining a small innocent child who has not done anything to anyone expressing these emotions of sadness. Suarez will catch lots of readers attention with this section of the poem because people have a lot of sympathy when it comes to children. In "Isla" Suarez talked about how "Godzilla bellows his eardrum crushing growl (Kirszner & Mandell 2012)." It was quite clever of the
