“Trust takes years to build, seconds to destroy, and a lifetime to repair”. This quote means a lot to me and is very precedent in the novel A Long Way Gone. Trust is almost as powerful as love. Ismael is not trusted by many of the other villagers and after he is done with being a soldier he has a hard time trusting people. This is also true with myself, certain situations can change the way a person trusts. To me, trusting someone means that I can tell them anything, whether it is something really good or really bad. Trusting someone mean that I can always count on that person. That person is always there and willing to help. They will keep all of my secrets. Just like me, Ishmael has a hard time trusting people after he has stopped fighting. He gets mad at himself for telling Ester about what he has gone through. It is easier to break than it is to gain someone’s trust. I think it is that way because a person can easily say the wrong thing, tell someone else what was told to them, they can turn their back on someone as if nothing has ever happened. A certain situation, that happens to be little or big, can break someone’s trust. That person could have betrayed me in the worst way possible, and lied about it. Lying is one of the easiest way to breaks someone’s trust. Even if it is to protect that person , it still breaks the trust that way there.
