The story of his life in “Superman and me” by, Sherman Alex, expressed deeply of himself on how dedicated and content he was during his youthful life. As a young impecunious Indian boy, he grew up on the sides of Eastern Washington state following the path of his father’s dedication in the love of reading and writing. He self taught his way up to be an overachiever reader by constantly reading everything he saw in sight. Later in life, acting as a life saver, he taught those who lacked in reading and writing. He’s proud and prudent to this day, leading those who are inspired by his novels, poems and short stories.

Hallucinations by Oliver Sacks I chose this book because I find hallucinations to be interesting. When I was younger I used to see floating shapes, I called them “floaties.” One of the times I remember seeing them was once on Easter morning, I saw a bunch of tiny green “peas” coming out of the foot rest on our couch, like a waterfall. I’ve stopped seeing them
Sherman Alexie in the essay, “Superman and Me: The Joy of Reading and Writing,” explains that being underprivileged does not always lead to failure. ALexie supports his explanation by first, introducing his background as a young child on an Indian Reservation then, illustrating how he learned to read through a Superman Comic Book and finally, reflecting on his past to benefit future generations of native children. The author’s purpose is to change native kid’s futures through education in order to prove that native children can be successful. The author writes in a reflective tone for (well-educated) non-natives who expect failure from

Octavia Butler is well known for having a variety of unconventional themes within her novels and short stories. Butler is one of the first female writers in the feminist science fiction genre, as well as, one of the few African-American women writers in the science fiction genre itself. Her novel Kindred published in 1979, is prime example of the unique and distinct perspective Butler brings to the genre; it is a blend of a neo-slave narrative and feminist science fiction. This blend of themes demonstrates the purpose of feminist science fiction itself: to reconstruct ideas of gender, sex, history, and ideas of the female body. Kindred is also used as a mechanism to defy and reconstruct the science fiction genre by using a female as a main character, redefining dystopias in the science fiction genre, and challenging masculinity of science fiction.
A Rivaled Friendship In Saki’s short story, “The Interlopers”, it’s about two men with a three generation long hatred toward one another’s family. The author’s theme in the story is that to become friends before you lose the chance to. The author deliberately delivers the theme by showing Ulrich and Georg’s relationship changing throughout the story whether or not the chance was positive or negative. He shows this theme by using many different literary devices specifically using how the setting affects the mood, situational irony, and some important external conflicts.

This passage is another life lesson to be learned. The author is blatantly telling us that we’re not important. However, I don’t think he is literally saying that we are unimportant, I think what he is trying to tell us is that us human beings have a tendency to think that we are than we actually are. There was a quote said by George Watsky, “There’s seven billion, forty six million people on the planet, and most of us have the audacity to think we matter.” In the second part of the quote where it says, “…someday the load we’re carrying with us may help someone…”
Holes I remember when I got in trouble for doing something I did not do. The title of this book is Holes, And the author is Louis Sachar. The theme of Holes is growing up because in the story stanly loses his innocence, he displays ambition, and he takes responsibility. One reason why I think innocence is part of the theme is because “ nobody had believed him when he said he was innocent, know when he said he stole them nobody believed him either” ( satchar pg 22).
C.S Lewis’s “Country of the Blind” shows the author’s beliefs in the society in which he lived in. As a young man Lewis rejected the idea of their being a God. As he got older he formed a strong friendship with J.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien provided Lewis with evidence that there was, in fact, a higher being and therefore being the inspiration behind this poem. The Country of the Blind, written in third person, is about society’s people rejecting truth and evidence.
