Stephen Belko did an excellent job writing the life and inspiration of this Jacksonian American. Green worked very close with President Andrew Jackson in the beginning of his term. That ended shortly after his feud with John C. Calhoun, which led to the annexation of Texas. This also helps the west expand as well.
“Shells” by Cynthia Rylant is a realistic fiction short story about a boy named Michael who has to live with his Aunt Esther after his parents die. In the beginning, Michael is sad and grieves his parents. He has to live with his Aunt Esther because she was the only one who would take him. Soon, Michael buys a pet hermit crab to keep him company. His aunt tries to get closer to Michael by trying to have something in common with him.
Everyone has depression, but did you know on October 29, 1929 the whole US went into depression. People lost their jobs, people lost their homes and lot’s of other things. Every bits and piece was super valuable at that time. Some effects the Great Depression had on people at that time was people lost their money. In life, people find different ways to cope with their issues. This is the case in “Vaclav and Lena” by Hayley Tanner, where the main characters Vaclav and Lena face many obstacles, but use their imaginations to help them deal with the struggles they face in reality. This relates to the quote “Imagination is the one weapon in the in the war against reality” by Jules de Gautier, because Vaclav and Lena use their imaginations and dreams of better things to come, to ignore the problems they currently face. Vaclav and Lena use their imaginations and dreams of the future to forget about their issues momentarily, and to be able to postpone dealing with them.
Economics and Psychology in Appalachia, An Analysis of the Novel: Above the Waterfall In the novel Above the Waterfall, Ron Rash decides to focus on the main theme of Loss. The culture within the beautiful ecosystem of Appalachia is encased with family ties that are hard to deny. Rash writes, “In a county this rural, everyone’s connected, if not by blood, then in some other way” from the relationship between Darby and Gerald to the friendship between Les and Becky, their relationships show a true loyalty to the ones they have grown up with and show that Appalachia is a tight knit community (Rash 90). The characters within the novel: Above the Waterfall demonstrate signs of loss of self, domestic violence, as well as poverty.
In society today there are young kids that do terrible things and they don't fully understand the extent of the matter. In the book “Monster” it tells the story of a young Steve Harmon, he planned a lookout that turned fatal but he had a change of heart. The people at the scene witnessed and could identify him as the lookout. He did not pull the trigger but he was involved in the crime. Steves name was mentioned when King and Evans were discussing the plans for the fatal crime.
He shows a strong theme of determination, along with dedication, and perseverance. Through this speech, and his ideals of determination, many rhetorical devices are put to use to drive forth these points. As such, repetition of driving forces lead the listener to know that these points are extremely important. For example, when he states “I wouldn’t stop there,” in various forms, but the same basic idea that he would continue on.

In this report we will be talking about the novel Hatchet, written by Gary Paulsen. All throughout the novel, Paulsen uses creative literary techniques to emphasise the theme of man versus nature. The novel, Hatchet, is about a young boy, called Brian, who takes a plane over a forest going from America to Canada to visit his dad, when the pilot dies from a heart attack and Brian has to crash land the plane in a lake. Brian then has to learn how to live in the wild while waiting to be found by the rescue crews. In the paragraphs below we will be talking about the literary techniques Paulsen uses throughout the novel, like metaphors, similes, reptation and exaggeration, that help show that, Brian is dealing with dangerous animals of the wild,
The film “Solitary Nation” by Dan Edge had an impact on me as I was watching the film of the inmates’ lives in solitary while a new warden is trying to make a change for them. Although it was similar to other prison documentaries, it had more of a closer view to solitary than the normal prisons. It provided evidence of how torturing it could be after a certain time, and how the world is constantly full of that nature no matter what measures are taken. It depicted the causes of solitary on the inmates’ behavior, and how contradictory it is to have solitary confinement. Should solitary still be used as a way of punishment?
We often overlook the simple pleasures in life, such as waking up feeling healthy or being able to breathe clearly through both nostrils. Sharon Olds' "Ode to Dirt" effectively employs literary techniques, including metaphors and personification to demonstrate the speaker's gradual shift in perspective towards dirt. As a result, the speaker begins to appreciate the true value of dirt. Sharon Olds is able to express the speaker's attitude toward dirt through the use of metaphors. An example of this can be seen in line 2, "I thought you were only the background" (Olds, line 2).

Adam Bagdasarian’s short story “Popularity” is about a boy who struggles to fit in and all he wants to be is popular. “Hanging Fire” by Audre Lorde is a short story about a girl who has multiple insecurities while dealing with them alone. “Going Steady” by Adam Bagdasarian is a short story about a boy who struggles to express his real feelings when in a romantic relationship. Adolescence is a time full of fights and no one can escape its pain because the fight for popularity and feeling insecure, while feeling alone can often be challenging for teens.
Racism is one of the many problems that are affecting members of minority groups in the United States. The issue emerged during the slave trade as individuals from Africa and other parts of the world were held captive and sold to work in large plantations in the West. Over the years, many scholars have studied the topic of race and how it affects the lives of impoverished who live in America. One of them is Pamela Rotner Sakamoto who wrote the book, Midnight in Broad Daylight: A Japanese American Family Caught between Two Worlds to reveal the experiences of a Japanese-American family during the Second World War. The author shows the hardships that the individuals encounter as they strive to fit into two contrasting worlds.
The story ‘Ghosts’, written by Danticat (2008) called on the deep analysis of the whole life and its real purpose, what could be the human faith and what could reshape it towards the brighter. Consequently, I admired the story for the detailed descriptions of the all characters’ feelings, just lacking the emotions of politicians and influential businessmen, who ruthlessly manipulate over the ghosts. Conversely, all rational young people such as Pascal try to achieve the higher goal in life, to improve and develop themselves in the best possible professional manner. Certainly, the tale narration about the peaceful life of young man, which strives to secure a decent destiny for his family amused me the greatly. The story telling seemed tremendously
