In society today there are young kids that do terrible things and they don't fully understand the extent of the matter. In the book “Monster” it tells the story of a young Steve Harmon, he planned a lookout that turned fatal but he had a change of heart. The people at the scene witnessed and could identify him as the lookout. He did not pull the trigger but he was involved in the crime. Steves name was mentioned when King and Evans were discussing the plans for the fatal crime.
Steve was a humble, respectful kid and that's why it’s so surprising to have him as a suspect in the crime. He would have never committed any crime like this if he was not peer pressured but Bobo and Evans. He was intimidated by the men and he didn't want to look like a wuss. He wasn’t built for prison, he writes in his journal about crying at night if anyone would hear him he’d get beat up when the lights go out. Jerry asks Steve if he ever wanted to be a superhero, he responded by saying “Sure. You who I’d want to be? Superman. You could say they had a very strong bond. Steve was a kid that had a lot going for him and instead he is in a cell. Steve doesn’t even want to live anymore but he explains that “they take away your shoelaces and your belt so you cant kill yourself no matter how bad it is, I guess making you love is part of the punishment.” That is generally saying that he doesn’t want to be there anymore he has given up all hope.
