In chapter seventeen, “Terra Incognita: Into the Maze”, of Desert Solitaire, written by Edward Abbey, Bob Waterman arrives in Moab with one hundred and fifty feet of nylon rope. Abbey and Bob are determined to go on an adventure to the Maze, a labyrinth of canyons but first ask a man named Bundy for directions. Waterman and Abbey follow directions provided to them and are thrilled to have been able to make it to the Maze without any problems. They explore the Maze and head back soon before a big storm strikes the area. Before leaving the site, they document their visits in a book at the Bureau of Land Management building, then drive back home.
If failure is a result of taking a risk, going into an unknown and confusing situation will be the most likeliest place to be. For example learning a new instrument or drawing. For me it was drawing, I gave up on drawing for a year or two because I felt I wasn’t good at it.
Every single resolution causes different outcomes, and this book shows that sometimes ordinary decisions can lead to an extraordinary life. Every decision can lead to many possible outcomes. Common decisions can appear in many ways, such as eating or going out for a walk. Although making a determination is quite simple, the result could always be surprising.

This quote suggests that no matter what happens in life, there is always something else waiting, whether it be good or bad. Even if someone knows that what is waiting for them is bad, they cannot stop living and must face whatever comes next.

This quotes shows that throughout one’s journey they will eventually have to go against many obstacles, and have to find a a way to get through them.
The ideas of fate and freewill have been debated on for years. Citizens of the twenty-first century often believe that life is a combination of fate and personal choices. The truth is, the question has gone through all of our minds whether we know of it or not. Are our lives predetermined or do we pave our own paths? To this day, when something goes wrong in my life, my parents often tell me “it was meant to be.”
In our life, there are periods of challenges that we must face, but the real challenge is how we grow and learn from overcoming them. Being naive children, we believed that life was simplistic and effortless. Well, we were wrong, we can only yearn for life to be easy. Growing up, we continue to face countless hurdles that only get bigger and bigger. My life, in particular, has been filled with numerous up and downs.
