Bullying has been a wide topic that has gained recognition throughout different period of time. In terms of your status, race or religion, bullying has always been an issue that impacts on those factors. The two texts that I read in class was ‘ A One Way Ticket to the End of the line’ and ‘All Summer in a Day’. In text 1, ‘ A One Way Ticket to the End of the Line’, the main character Arnold Zable who is also the author narrates his childhood experience in dealing with racial bullying. The character in the text is portrayed as a young boy aged 7 who goes to a camp away from home and experiences bullying from his peers due to his race. In text 1, the main bully who dictated orders was Captain Crewcut who expressed his hate for the main character by composing a couplet indirectly dissing the main character’s race. He has build a manipulative character to the readers by giving orders to rest of his friends to humiliate the main character by spitting in his face. In terms of the political world, this stories shares a common root with both of them having a bully who is racist quite similar to Hitler. Hitler also dictated his followers to punish the Jew just like how the main bully is in this story. In the second text, readers are able to see how joint bullies have much more power than one frail girl. Margot’s bullies ganged up on her and physically bullied her by shoving her around and locking her in the closet just because they did not agree with what she had to say. Both this stories are set in different period of time but their portrayal of the character of the bullies gives a view how similar of a character they have.
