The Youngers moved into their new house facing an uncertain future. Although Beneatha has decided to go to Africa a week after moving to their new house, the Youngers still had to make quite a few decisions that would affect their future. A month into the future the main focus of the household is Walter’s career. Despite him having moved past his liquor store idea, he still wants to be more than a chauffeur. Let me guess, the owner of a business?”, she says sarcastically. “No I’m past that, I understand that I can’t be a rich millionaire living the dream. But I don’t have to settle for being a chauffour”, Walter says, as this ended their conversation on the topic. That night, Walter thought about what he’d even want to do, he’s been a chauffour his whole life. He’s never done anything outside of driving people around. Then he thought about how he enjoyed building some of the furniture for the house. He also recalled that their was a carpenting add in the paper, looking for people that would be interested. At the time he overlooked it but he realized that it could be a good opportunity for him. Walter decided to quit his job and take on the job offer for carpenting that he saw in the ad. Although it was a risk, it was a risk he was willing to take to become an even better role model for his son, and show him not to accept mediocrity. Walter was fairly lucky in having a non racist, lenient boss that was willing to let Walter take on a new career despite having no previous experience. It turns out Walter was fairly good at his job with practice and within a couple months he became very comfortable with
