Imagine yourself throwing a plastic ring from a six pack of soda on the ground. Next, picture that same piece of plastic that was thrown on the ground wrapped around a sea otters neck, and it being trapped. Makes you want to pick up that plastic ring, doesn’t it? Frank Trippett in his article, “A Red Light for Scofflaws” argues that social order is broken when citizens who normally would obey the law become scofflaws. The author starts by explaining which laws he believes that are most broken everyday.
We can be there in only an hour at the speed I will be driving! Frank Trippett’s excerpt from “A Red Light for Scofflaws” explains how we should get rid of “minor” charges because it is putting these people that do these certain thing in a category with “scofflaws” or people that break the law all the time. He shows this by giving some examples of what some people would get one of these charges for, like a speeding ticket or littering. People need to have these guidelines or they are not going to do the right thing, if people are not getting an consequences they why would they listen to them if they don 't want too.
Frank Trippett, in his passage “A Red Light For Scofflaws”, is arguing that the people are not following the minor laws because they think it is not important, he support his argument by first explaining how the people are breaking laws and not even thought that it was wrong, he continues by showing how the careless of the people could threaten the people’s lives. The author wrote in critical tone for the Americans who are breaking the minor laws. The author’s argument is right, people should take the minor laws more seriously because people could lose their lives and make other people life in dangerous too. The people do not think that these laws are important, and they are not that big deal because it will not make any different and will not effect anyone, for example, if the government decide to change the speeding in certain area and make it lower, some people will think that this is wrong because they got used to a certain system and they do not want to change it.
Many Americans think that they are not considered a lawbreaker but in all reality they really can be. Frank Trippett, in his passage, “A Red Light of Scofflaws”, addresses that, Americans are used to thinking that the law is threatened mainly by violent crime. Trippett supports his argument by presenting that more and more people are casually breaking the law by, littering, speeding, and noise pollution. Tippett creates a firm tone towards lawbreakers and Americans. The author’s argument is valid because most people think they will be able to do what they want without thinking they are doing any wrong.
Trippett writes in an informative tone for an educated audience. He correctly argues that most people break the law casually and that these actions disrupt society. First of all, the laws are there to protect the people. Someone that breaks these laws
Many Americans break the laws of California and other states everyday. Frank Trippetts argument is that many people who say that they do not break the law are actually breaking in a way that no one can find out about. Frank Trippett supports his claim by showing examples of different ways of breaking the law. I disagree with the author's argument because it is unrealistic to not pay your taxes with the code that is given to the United States government, people polluting the world with loud noise, or speeding down the highway. Some people who disagree with his views will say that it is okay to break the law if no one sees it or hears about about it.
What is college for? What’s college for? This question has been daunting on every college or college hopeful students mind at least once. Back in the day it was a lot simpler for a student to answer that question, but now not so much.
“Deviant Behaviours”, written by Erich Goode, describes deviance as the violation of social norms that can result in punishment, condemnation or ridicule (Goode, p5). Deviant behaviour is not a simple concept, but the concept can be broken down into numerous terms that can help better illustrate the different forms of deviant behaviour. A few concepts of deviant behaviour which are discussed in Goode’s publication of “Deviant Behaviours” are elaborated through the lyrical content of two artists, “Drugs are good” written by NoFX and “I need Drugs” by Necro. NoFX and Necro are two American artists that demonstrate the many strains of Deviance through their lyrics, and is demonstrated through the songs “Drugs are good” performed by Nofx and “I
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky is a novel that forces many readers to reflect on humanity and even their own lives, due to his intelligent perspective of human nature and its reasoning. Throughout the novel, the main character, Rodion Romanovitch Raskolnikov or Rodya, battles internally after murdering the hateful broker, which leads him to feel unexpected guilt, which supports Dostoyevsky’s reason for writing the novel. Dostoyevsky wrote Crime and Punishment to explain that within the most evil of humanity, it is usually supported by good intentions, which is explained through characters such as Rodya, Sonya’s mother, and Arkady. Regardless of the spiteful action of Rodya, his character is sympathized because of his good intentions
Are we obligated to obey unjust laws? Laws are important because they are guidelines for a state. Without laws citizens would not know how to act and cause harm to others. Laws are aimed at common good and keep a society together and functioning.
