The musical Hamilton written by Lin-Manuel Miranda shows the crucial values that helped form America through its lively songs, omitting the term American values. The values that America is built on are the true reasons it could succeed as a country. Many of the founding fathers, like George Washington and Alexander Hamilton, exhibit core American values in the musical. The values, like innovation and democracy, are still visible today in many American figures. Nancy Pelosi, the first female speaker of the House of Representatives, displays similar American values that are seen in Hamilton and she has worked hard to keep the values alive today. Nancy Pelosi’s biography written by the House of Representatives claims Pelosi works to help the people. Democracy is rooted in the people. The people refer to any American citizen, which means the average person has a voice and a right to vote in government. The House of Representatives claims, “Pelosi is fighting For The People: working to lower costs, increase paychecks and create jobs for American families” (House of Representatives). Nancy Pelosi's work in the House of Representatives expresses she works to help the average American citizen. The people elected Pelosi to serve in the House of Representatives, and she is helping them in return. In the musical Hamilton, George Washington demonstrates democracy by letting the people vote for the next president. Washington steps down from becoming elected as the next president. Hamilton questions Washington's actions, and Washington responds by saying, “If I say goodbye, the nation learns to move on” (Miranda). Washington resigns from running for president for another term so the people of his country can pick a new leader. Washington wants the people to pick a new president so a new person with new ideas can come and help the country change for the better.
