In “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry, the author uses diction like abstract diction and details by explaining what he exactly wants in life to demonstrate Walter and his dream. To begin, Hansberry uses diction to demonstrate Walter and his dream by using abstract diction. She does this by explaining how he will give Travis anything for his seventeenth birthday and that he will “hand you the world!” (2.2). This shows that he wants to make his sons life as good as possible.
Aesop’s “The Ants and the Grasshopper” and Milo Winter’s accompanying illustration demonstrate rhetorical appeals in rational, sentimental, and ethical manner to persuade the audience that life is not just a question of work or fun but the way you manage both. Young children approximately between primary and third grades learn the worthy lesson of scheduling their time for study and fun. The JOURNAL OF THE CAXTON CLUB OF CHICAGO describes Milo Winter’s illustrations as one of the … “better-known of the early 20th Century” (4-5). Likewise, the AMERICANLITTERATURE.COM characterizes Aesop as a “fabulist credited” and who had been slave for many masters before working for the King, which immediately links the importance of spreading
The ability to divide our attention during cognitively demanding tasks and the allure of technology creates a delicate balancing act that can at times have grave consequences. On September 22, 2006 in Utah, Reggie Shaw placed the fates of James Furfaro and Keith O’Dell, as well as his own upon this deadly scale. Tragically, the lives of James and Keith were lost, and Reggie Shaw’s future would be forever altered by the events and decisions of that day (Richtel 16). In this modern age of technological marvels our attention is vied for in a constant conflict. Frequently in our lives or particularly in our jobs we are called upon to execute mentally demanding and at times dangerous tasks.
In Jonathan Foer’s argumentative essay “Let Them Eat Dog”, he makes a very convincing argument for the consumption of dog, a surprising topic to argue for. However, when one reads through his excerpt, it’s quite difficult to escape the sound logic he utilizes throughout the piece. Ranging from commentary on the taste of dog meat to points about the ecological impact it would have if the U.S. started eating dog, Foer is persuasive and reasonable. So reasonable, in fact, that it begs the reader to question exactly why he would put so much effort into arguing for eating dog, something that most people won’t change their minds on no matter how logical the argument is. Foer even admits at the end of his essay that despite his best efforts, people

It’s that damn rhetorical styling that got me. I listened to this album for a week straight when it came out in August and then went on a month long detox. Feeling a craving for it today I wasn’t surprised when this line ended up being one of the features in my ear’s highlight reel. It’s that damn rhetorical styling, I tell you. It’s a sweet song from a boy to his love.

The essay I chose is “The Top Reason to Adopt a Pet” by the Humane Society. The reason I chose this particular essay is adoption is very near and dear to my heart and I think everyone should adopt pets. The author organizes the essay using eight different points of why you should adopt a pet. Also the author doesn’t use high style to get her point across.
As an author, Stephen King has developed the skill of alluring writing. Stephen King’s word choice is not common, but eccentric and assists in making a story enticing to read. Alike Stephen King, W.W Jacobs also uses quality word choice and descriptive adjectives for his stories, one of them is “The Monkey’s Paw.” In “The Monkey’s Paw” W.W Jacobs uses word choice and descriptive adjectives to develop the theme.
Giving a speech whether being for the public or not, offers personal, professional, and public benefits for the individual. The individual might find it easier to obtain a profession, build better relationships amongst peers, or even propel social movements by carefully constructing and delivering a well thought out speech. The copy strategically placed next to the dog’s face is used to guide the viewer’s eye to the next important element, the message “Help Us Help Them” (ASPCA). Likewise, the words “Help Us Help Them” (ASPCA) assist in delivering and clarifying the message of the visual to the audience. Other elements in the photograph, serve to direct the viewer to the next element of importance, such as the chain that serves as a directional line to guide the eye to the words “Donate Today” (ASPCA). These words set in white are intentionally placed on an orange hue background causing them to stand out creating contrast, urging the audience to make a donation. Another element used to support the ad’s message is the
The commercial published by Chevrolet in 2014 is an exceptional advertisement. This commercial advertises the Chevy Silverado truck. However, this commercial does not only influence the audience to purchase a truck but; the advertisement portrays a life lesson that every person should know and practice. The commercial by Chevrolet titled, “A Boy and His Dog,” is extremely effective and persuasive to the audience through emotion, ethics, and logical situations.
In Animal Farm, George Orwell warns how power will often lead to corruption. Napoleon was placed in a position of power after Major died, and he slowly starts to lavish in his power and become addicted to the lush life of a dictator. When Napoleon first becomes a leader, he expresses how everyone will work equally, but as his reign goes on, he shortens the work hours. At the very end of the novel, the observing animals even start to see that pig and man had become the same. The irony present in the above example, illuminates how regardless of how much a ruler promises to maintain equality and fairness, the position of power that they hold, will corrupt them.
In the essay, “The Death of the Moth”, Virginia Woolf uses metaphor to convey that the relationship between life and death is one that is strange and fragile. Woolf tells the story of the life and death of a moth, one that is petite and insignificant. The moth is full of life, and lives life as if merry days and warm summers are the only things the moth knows. However, as the moth enters it’s last moments, it realizes that death is stronger than any other force. As the moth knew life seconds before, it has now deteriorated into death.
