I have recently attended a public speaking event in NYC, regarding woman rights. Casey McGarden is a strong feminist, and has a powerful voice that never left my head. Her words of empowerment and wisdom have left many people thinking about the importance of woman in this society. Not only did she send her message effectively, but she also left the audience questioning what woman and men need to do to achieve equality. I will be discussing my reactions to her speech throughout the rest of this paper. Casey McGarden is a 25 years old and successful. This is how she introduced herself. I questioned myself of the importance of her background. My question was shortly answered. Casey brought up an issue that threatened her success. It was sex prejudices. According to Casey, sex prejudices are promoted by the expectations that are set for both genders in this society. Society expects men to be powerful and capable of doing difficult tasks. These two expectations can cause men and even women to discriminate against any woman who is trying her best to thrive for success. Casey has faced this many times, but she did not give up. I was impressed by her strong voice and her narrative construction throughout this part of the speech. This element that she added helped me connect with her and her message. Moreover, it helped the audience catch Casey’s message easily. As Casey continues throughout her speech, she continuously asked the audience of what they thought of her views. This helped establish her credibility. However, Casey has asked a few questions that made male audience members uncomfortable. Many men and women were stricken by her questions.
