The “Gettysburg Address” is a creature in itself that is a representation of the goals of our nation. The “Gettysburg Address” was a speech exercised by President Abraham Lincoln in a time where our nation was as divided as ever. In 1863 our country was emerged in the strain upon itself provided by the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln expressed the dire need of change in our country to prevent demolishment of our values. He spoke about how too many had given their lives to preserve our country, and how we need to finish the work they put so forth. He explained that we needed to unite as a country and solve our problems. This speech was most revolutionary and spread the views that would occupy the majority of the nation. I agree that the treatment of minorities in America is detrimental to our growing society. No one should have to wake up every morning to be frightened and worried if they are going to be shot or harassed based on the color of their skin. Even though I would not choose to kneel during the “National Anthem” based on respects for those who have fought to protect this country, I do believe that Colin Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the “National Anthem” was not harmful, and was rather peaceful protesting. Some have resulted to violence in protesting, and I do not understand how Kaepernick kneeling could be equal to such. The First Amendment states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” This amendment provides Colin Kaepernick the right to protest as he chose to protest. I do not think that Kaepernick deserves total disrespect from the country when there are others that have done much worse and yet we still hear about how Kaepernick should be deported. I also believe that Colin Kaepernick’s football career should not be affected by his opinion on our country which does not harm others and is not bias or ignominious of one race. I understand when some get frustrated with Kaepernick’s decision, I just do not think that automatically makes him deserving of
