In A Separate Peace by John Knowles, there are many themes found. This story takes place in the past when Gene and Phineas were best friends in their private school called Devon. Throughout this story, Gene goes through an extreme coming of age. There are many lessons Gene has learned during this period. As Gene takes us through the story of his life, we can find many things that have changed in him. Gene was struggling with the concept of jealousy all throughout the novel.
