Journal 1 I am reading “the bass, the river, and Shelia Mant ” by W.D Wetherill. So far this story is about this boy who likes a girl that joust moved near bass boy. In this journal I will be questioning and As I read this story, I wonder if the narrator will pick bass or Sheila. It is possible that he’ll pick the bass.
The painting was created with the purpose of recording history, as it is not done in deep detail or extreme accuracy. The painting depicts the English arriving upon a shoreline spotted with aboriginals. The aboriginals appear to seem outnumber the English and portrayed with a sense of urgency - their positioning erratic. The body language of the aboriginal figures portray a sense of curiosity, they are not formal or entirely defensive but instead reaching out to the British with others clumped together watching cautiously. The British are painted in a more formal manner, wearing blue jackets and hats.
In the essay “Nanny boo-boos” by John Leo, the author discusses how in the attempts made to make everyday life safer, it is actually encouraging creeping nannyism which is described by the author as proposing a program that appears limited and reasonable, but then escalates until a demented level of government intrusion is reached. Leo begins his essay by writing about the different types of bullying in the school, mentioning that there are other types aside from just violence and intimidation. The author goes on to explain how the extended criteria for bullying makes most students bullies, to remedy this Leo writes how seating in lunchrooms may have to be rearranged and an anti clique rule be put in place as per a school workbook.

In “The Art of Drowning” by Billy Collins, he inquires the thought of life flashing before your eyes when you are reaching an imminent death. When the character leaps underneath the surface to his aqueous grave, a fast depiction of a long life is rotated through his mind. Mr. Collins explains how weird it is that time crushed into such a short film in the final seconds of life. Collins reverie of an ultimate instant when all corners of the existence resided come together for an impressive production, a sit down gathering where all moments are commended in great detail and discussion. Appalled by the moment, is as quick as the time it takes for the oxygen to exhaust in a moribund, drowning man.
The whole concept of Nick Sousanis 's comic "Unflattening" pertains to how one can see different things and read the social world. While the social world of mankind is shaped based on the choices our ancestors made, do social patterns and behaviors really have to be a certain way? Perhaps, there is a flatness not yet scene that allows for this blinded vision and machine like operation which does not question repetition. A main focal point being stressed. Essentially, a main point Sousanis wants us to note is this: (1) change our perception in things, (2) changed perception creates a change in action, thus (3) a change to the world.

In the book Old School by Tobias Wolff, the unnamed narrator struggles through healthy imitation and plagiarism inside of the Hill school. While attending this school, the narrator enters a writing contest. The submission the narrator uses is of another person, but he claims the writing to be so related to him and how the writing is his life in a sense. The narrator ends up plagiarizing the piece and is expelled by the school. The school expelled him with thought of reputation and to set an example for the other students.
In Basil Davidson’s video, “Different but Equal”, Davidson examines ancient Africa, and how Africans were perceived in ancient and modern times. Davidson discusses pre-colonized Africa and its history, and how racism prevailed in the past and in modern day. By discussing early civilizations, as well as modern day perspectives, Davidson allows the viewer to have expansive information on how individuals view Africans and their culture. In Davidson’s video, he discusses how people in the past have viewed Africa and African culture, and how that relates to our perception of Africa in modern times.
The existence of God has been presented by a multitude of philosophers. However, this has led to profound criticism and arguments of God’s inexistence. The strongest argument in contradiction to God’s existence is the Problem of Evil, presented by J.L Mackie. In this paper, I aim to describe the problem of evil, analyse the objection of the Paradox of Omnipotence and provide rebuttals to this objection. Thus, highlighting my support for Mackie’s Problem of evil.
Riding the Whip The theme of the story was perspective. Riding the Whip touched on how some people see things versus others. The following quote is a great example, “She just sees things differently” (Hemley, Whipped 115).
