Many feel as if they have to be loyal in order to feel comfortable in life. In relationships, people are loyal to those who define themselves similar even though they may have many differences.
The theme in Dragon Slayer: The Tales of Beowulf is Loyalty. For example, When all hope was loss, when the blood came flowing from the water Beowulf's sword brothers stayed with all the hope they had left was that there fellow sword brother had won the gruesome fight, against the black hearted sea hag. For this reason This shows loyalty. Another example of loyalty was when Wiglaf risked his life against the fierce and the vicious dragon to save his king this shows an act of loyalty throughout the book there are many examples of Loyalty.

This means the warrior must fulfill his obligations to protect the people of the land and risk his life for their king. It also applies to women, in Beowulf, a woman's duty is to entertain the men as well as to serve a symbol of peace.

Loyalty in the Heroic Code is a bond between the king and his warriors; loyalty to the king is first above all, even family in this text. If the warriors lack the loyalty for their king, the urge to protect their king and tribe is diminished. Beowulf’s king, Hygelac, gave him permission to help the Danish king and his people. Beowulf exerts his loyalty to Hrothgar by protecting the king’s people, and killing Grendel.
Beowulf showed the characteristic of loyalty. To be loyal you have to be reliable and you have to be very trustful. Beowulf shows loyalty when he says,“ I sought out Hrothgar, first,came to him in his hall;/When Healfdane's famous son heard/That I’d come to challenge Grendel,he gave me/A seat of honor alongside his son”(Beowulf 322-24). This shows loyalty to Hrothgar because he came to him to tell him he will fight Grendel and kill him, and he wanted to do it alone because he did not want anyone getting hurt. He did it for the safety of his people, and he stayed true to his word and killed Grendel.
