A wise man named Samuel Butler once said ,``The truest characters of ignorance are vanity and pride and arrogance. Does having too much pride trap or serve us? Some believe that having a healthy self-worth means taking pride in the achievements we make. But if value is linked to our self-image or accomplishments then it is built on a tenuous foundation. Pride is a characteristic proven to prevent us from acknowledging our vulnerabilities as a human. However, most people believe that pride is a virtue and that it is not poisonous . Is it really debatable if whether or not if pride is a deadly sin? Having pride alone I believe can not kill someone, it is when having too much of it leads them to their downfall. He did carry the ways of a Anglo-Saxon which were honesty, kindness,loyalty, and honor. But all of that was soon covered up with his prideful thinking. Beowulf came to the aid of the king Hrothgar and his people willingly, knowing he could solve the king’s problem. Beowulf succeed in killing the monster getting fame , glory, and riches. Although Beowulf brought along his mighty warriors he persisted that they stay and watch him defeat the monster named “Grendel’’ all alone. Beowulf’s exact words were ‘’Alone shall fight for me, struggle for the life against the monster’’ (Beers 173-174). For proof of his accomplishment Beowulf decided to take,snap, and brake Grendel 's arm apart even his shoulder was missing. Although Grendel escaped going back to the hole he crawled from death soon followed him.(Beers 370-375).Beowulf became famous and was given glory for saving King Hrothgar’s kingdom, but some still questioned despite the arm if Grendel had really been killed.Following after Grendel’s death ,his mother came to avenge her son’s death. She killed warriors until the battle between her and Beowulf. Beowulf pridefully and dangerously jumped into the lake following her to her lair alone.(Beers 450-454) Struggling at first, Beowulf underestimated her power. He soon found a magical sword that could kill her.After killing her ,he rejoiced and lingered around the lair in search for not gold but Grendel’s head.(Beers
