Stephen Gould in “A Time for Gifts” loves mankind and thinks we are wonderful creatures capable of doing wonderful things, which we are capable of wonderful things we just do not use it in the right way. He says people will always do the right thing when it comes down to it. Mark Twain on the other hand says that mankind is awful, malicious, and cruel. I have to agree with Mark Twain on this one. Mankind are awful creatures who take what they want just because they have the power to do it. They have no regards for anyone else but themselves, were selfish. The Black Eyed Peas even wrote a song about how messed up society and mankind are. “I have been studying the traits and dispositions of the lower animals, and contrasting them with the traits and dispositions of man. I find the result humiliating to me.” Mark Twain in “The Lowest Animal” Mark Twain says that mankind is awful, the lowest of the low, cruel, and malicious. In “The Lowest Animal” one of the experiments was they put a anaconda in a cage with multiple calves and the snake only killed and ate one of the calves and left the others alone. And then I learned something important that I should have never have forgotten.” Some people have good hearts and genuinely care for other people. But twelve, only twelve, they could not have done anymore to help? I understand that it is the thought that counts, but there are thousands of workers and they could only make twelve? Yes, some people still care about other people, but I guess not enough to help more than just twelve apple brown bettys.
